Best Grilling Tools

by Natasha Johnson

That sun’s been getting hotter every day, and you’ve probably been eyeing your outdoor grill, thinking about the steaks and burgers you’ll be feasting on as the weather warms. Now’s a great time to prepare for the grilling season by stocking up on some grilling essentials.

1. Basting brushes. You can never have too many of them! Check out natural bristle paintbrushes with long-handles – they make brushing on marinades and glazes a breeze while you’re grilling.

2. Wire grill baskets. These are perfect tools for grilling fish or vegetables or any other foods that might flake or otherwise have small bits that could drop into the fire. They come in several shapes and sizes, so stock up on the ones you’re most likely to use.

3. Barbecue skewers. Bring on those kabobs! Grilled kabobs are a nice summer meal, and you can get skewers for kabobs in either bamboo or metal. Make sure to soak bamboo skewers for half an hour before grilling. Metal skewers can get very hot, so take care when turning them, or get ones with heat-resistant handles.

4. Meat thermometers. These are a great investment for the grill afficionado, letting you grill rare or medium rare steaks without anxiety. They’re good for ensuring grilled chicken is fully cooked, too.

5. Grill tongs. Look for tongs that are long-handled – they make turning food over an easier and more comfortable task. And if you’re grilling on a charcoal grill, get a second set of tongs to use specifically for moving and redistributing the charcoal.
